Overhead Press, Biceps, Bent Rows

Garage

  • Clean & Strict press ’till failure then a few push presses (just one clean then the presses, not clean each rep then press…although I do like to do that sometimes too!)
  • Barbell Bicep curls w/drop sets – got my arms so pumped I could barely move
  • Bent over rows

Thanks again for the awesome graphics…can’t wait to debut them :)

Yea Craig’s pool jump is pretty sick!

Lol so funny how humbling the OHP is…part of why I love it! Definitely no UBADNSSMC membership for that guy hahhaha.

Well, I know I don’t have to, silly! But it is Christmas! haha BTW, Craig’s pool jump (it shows up to the right) is pretty crazy. If I tried that I would split my head open!! :D

Yeah, about overheads… It’s weird how much most people suck at them. I trained with a guy a while back, an enormous bb’er/doorman (6’1″ 280lbs ish, and he has done a touch and go 500 bench) and he was really struggling with 2 plates a side for about 10, seated, when doing them all the way up and down. No UBADNSSMC membership for him! LOL :D

Thanks on the graphic…I’m sure it’ll be awesome! You really don’t have to do that though.

That’s sick OHP’ing. Nice to hear someone is doing them with good form!

Yeah, he has uploaded 405X6 and 455X3 seated and going all the way down. :-O

I hope you’re right, Kara! Hopefully this isn’t too cheeky (not sure what the American word for cheeky is? It kinda means.. ‘forward’! lol) but would you mind making a tweet about me? haha… Sorry that sounds really bad! :P I will do you a surprise ‘graphic for your blog’ as a Christmas present in return…! :)

btw I noticed your comment to Casey/Masked Bencher in my fb feed. I love that guy! :D 405X6 seated overhead too, I think he’s up there with Kazmaier on those. I need to start watching his and your overhead videos right before I train. :D

Lol at being the last person to get Twitter! I’m following ya. Yea definitely get more aggressive with online marketing… Your skills are sick and when people see your work they’re gonna be all over it!

Hahaha! The color coordination is very important. :D

BTW- I just became the last person on the planet to get Twitter… figure it will help my business some, I really need to be more aggressive marketing online rather than relying on clients/local stuff. Now I have to spend an hour learning how to use it. haha Anyway add, or follow, or whatever they call it on here, me… :P

Kara’s Question & Answer

Raw Lifter new to Equipment

Hey Kara, I just started competing in powerlifting and was able to qualify for the USAPL nationals with a raw total from my first meet. I don’t currently have gear, but was thinking it would be a good idea to get some and learn how to use it before that meet. My coach was telling me you have some pretty impressive numbers in the various lifts and might be able to give me a few tips on where to look for powerlifting gear and if there are any tricks to using it.

That’s awesome you qualified for USAPL Nationals raw! Good stuff. I’d be glad to help you out however I can with Powerlifting gear. read more...

Conventional vs. Sumo Deadlift

Hey Kara, I’m trying to decide whether to pull sumo or conventional. My strength training background is mainly Olympic Lifting like yours and all the deadlifting I’ve done is Olympic pulls. Have you tried both sumo and conventional? Which is your favorite? And is there anything other than personal preference which can help someone pick whether they do one technique or the other?

So funny you mentioned doing Olympic pulls. That’s almost ALL I do and ever have done for my deadlift training…even for sumo powerlifting deadlifts! Heavy snatch and clean pulls. When meet time gets close I’ll do a couple of sessions sumo with and without the suit, just to get used to the technique, but my training is almost exclusively Olympic pulls. I have tried both sumo and conventional deadlifts read more...
